Cottenham Colts Weekend Round-Up [18th Jan]

Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 18th January

MINI LEAGUE MATCHES

Under-8s v Soham Town Rangers Youth

The Under-8’s were excited to return to the field today after an extended hiatus. They faced a formidable Soham team that truly tested their skills.

Cottenham showcased impressive football, effectively utilizing the entire pitch with accurate passing, solid defense, and some fantastic goals.

Every player put in maximum effort on a chilly morning, fighting hard until the final whistle.

Great job, boys! We can’t wait for the next match.

Girls League

GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS

Under-9s v Soham Town Youth

A great team effort away against Soham. Some great passing and positional play. Lots of improvement each week.

Under-11s v Thorney

After an extended break from competition, the Girls returned to the field to face Thorney. The match kicked off in chilly conditions, but the action was intense right from the start. Both teams displayed aggressive attacking play, with every player giving their all.

The home team took the lead with some well-executed goals and, bolstered by strong defensive efforts, looked promising as they headed into halftime.

As both teams struggled with the heavy pitch and fatigue set in, the second half was less eventful. However, the Colts secured a commendable result.

Overall, it was an impressive performance from the entire squad, especially considering they hadn't played in nearly two months.

Well done girls!!

Under-12s [Purple] 0 v 1 Huntingdon Town FC

Tough match today on the road at Huntingdon with three players missing, leaving us without substitutes.

Huntingdon started strong and dominated the early moments, but Cottenham regrouped and created the best opportunity of the match when Flo's shot was denied by the goalkeeper.

The score remained 0-0 as we entered the second half, but Huntingdon broke the stalemate 10 minutes in. Ava made a solid save, but their striker capitalized on the rebound to make it 1-0.

The team fought hard for an equalizer, resulting in a frantic final 10 minutes filled with pressure, but the goal eluded us.

The effort was commendable. Marley earned Player of the Game for her tenacious performance in midfield.

Great job, girls

Under-14s 4 v 1 Linton Aztecs

A second triumph in 2025 came with a 4-1 victory against Linton Aztecs. The cold weather and a rather sticky pitch posed challenges for maintaining passing flow.

The girls performed admirably, showing great determination throughout the match. Sasha continued her scoring streak with two expertly taken goals.

Hannah contributed with a stunning long-range shot, while Bethan also found the net once more.

Kayla earned the Player of the Match title for her relentless effort, denying our opponents any time or space on the ball.

Overall, it was a strong performance, and we look forward to seeing even more creativity as we head into the second half of the season.

Under-17s 3 v 1 St Ives Rangers

The Under-17s made it eight wins from eight in the league with a home win against St.Ives.
