Cottenham Colts Weekend Round-Up [20th April]

Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 20th April.

MINI LEAGUE MATCHES

Under-7s v Witchford Colts

The season is ending on a high with more and more confident performances from the Under-7’s.

It was great to see the boys putting in another strong team performance with some great passing, defending and goals. Each player has improved across the season and it was very clear to see how far the team has come in our match against a good Witchford side.

As always, very proud of all the boys. Onto the last match of the season!

Girls League

GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS

Under-10s v Histon [Friendly]

The Girls carried on their journey from moving to a 9-a-side game from next season with another friendly against local rivals, Histon.

The team did really well in tough conditions, The first half was against the wind and the team struggled to get out of their own half but the Girls rose to the challenge.

In the second half, the girls were fantastic and started to play some nice football, passing and moving just like they worked on in training.

Much better performance from last week and with some more friendlies lined up the girls should be nice and prepared for next season.

Great effort, Team!!

Under-11s v Coton Football Club

Always a tough task playing against Coton and today was no exception. Two excellent sides on display who battled hard throughout the game. In some ways it was a tale of defences, both sides were rock solid at the back leading to a game of few changes.

Some great play from both sides led to a very tight game but the Colts were just able to get over the line in this match

Great performances throughout the team today with the defence holding firm and some excellent running from midfield.

Well done girls. Great result

Under-13s 1 v 1 Haverhill Rovers

Wind tunnel conditions for our match against Haverhill today. A real test in the first half and the defence was up against it as the ball came at us throughout. Haverhill took the lead with a very tight offside call after a bright start.

The girls fought back though and after good pressure up the wing Hannah put Maddie in on goal to level the score.

With the wind behind us in the second half it was all Cottenham but a bobbly pitch made it hard for either side to get the ball under control. Cottenham had the lion's share of the chances but couldn't convert. The game was summed up by a frantic goalmouth scramble at the death where Marnie and Luka both saw chances blocked on the line.

A point a piece and a bit of a missed opportunity but with the return fixture soon there is another chance to grab all three points.

Player of the game for Maddie for her usual brand of excellent wing play.

Under-16s 4 v 0 Chesterton Eagles

A good win for the Under-16s as they hit four past Chesterton with Emma grabbing two, Lilia and Milly also on target.
