Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 23rd March.
MINI LEAGUE RESULTS
Under-7s v Haddenham Rovers FC
The Under 7’s were away at a windy Haddenham. The boys were excited before the match and this showed throughout the game. It was a close match which the boys took in their stride and battled to the end. A few more goals scored and some great moments.
Another great result, boys!!
Under-8s [Red] v Isleham Youth FC
Well, it was an end of on era as our Under-8s 5 v 5 league football comes to an end and what a way to finish with a positive result against a strong Isleham team.
A great performance especially with a depleted squad with a number of players out but the boys stepped up with some fantastic goals.
Our passing, work ethic, defending and overall attitude were all on display despite going a goal down at the start and Isleham missing an early penalty.
Thanks to the boys this season it has been an absolute pleasure and also thanks to all the parents. Until next season....
Under-9s v FC Kennett Youth
The Under-9s wrapped up their league season with a tough match against FC Kennett Youth. They gave their all against a very well matched side. Some excellent team play and great goals were scored.
Looking forward to next season already! Well done boys...
GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS
Under-10s v Over Sports
What a game these sides served up for the crowd on this chilly windy morning. The game had everything....goals, tackles, saves!
The Colts battled hard against a very good Over side with both sides attacking from the first whistle.
It was a great spectacle to see both sides giving everything in the game and scoring some great goals. It was a tight match right up to the final whistle and the Girls were exhausted from their effort!
Another superb team performance!
COLTS LEAGUE TEAMS RESULTS
Under-12s [Red] 1 v 1 Gamlingay United Colts
Under-12s [Black] 0 v 2 Haddenham Rovers Colts
Under-13s [Red] 4 v 1 Priory Parkside [White]
Super Sam’s second hat trick in two weeks sends the Reds back to the top of the league!
A strong third place Priory Parkside team awaited our Under-13s Red side on Saturday, and it’s fair to say the lads were up for the battle. An outstanding and dominant display in the first half resulted in a first half hat trick for Sam (his second in 2 weeks) and a comfortable 3-0 advantage at the half-time break. Going into the second half, the boys continued to play to the high standard they set in the first.
The chances to score were still coming and eventually, we were able to add a fourth and extend our lead when Tony forced the ball over the line after a bit of a scramble in the opposition penalty box. Priory pulled a goal back right at the death from the penalty spot to make the full-time result 4-1.
We are so proud of how well these boys have done this season, they continue to set themselves high standards and are all working very hard.
Keep going, boys, we are nearly there!
Under-13s [Black] 4 v 3 Newmarket Town Youth [Friendly]
A late kick-off today as only being a friendly the weather gave us everything. Sunny during the warm up hail stones at kick-off then the wind picked up!
Cottenham got off to a strong start going 1-0 up from an Orrin free kick. Newmarket came back after a couple of mistakes from Cottenham to take the lead against the run of play. 2-1. Cottenham applying pressure got a goal back with Sam.B after a lovely pass from Charlie, it stayed 2-2 going into half time.
Second half started with Cottenham having more of the ball. Against the run of play Newmarket go 3-2 up. On 53 minutes Alfie puts Phil through with a lovely 1-2 to bring us level again at 3-3.
Last minute of the game, Phil repays the favour putting Alfie through to slot home 4-3 to Cottenham.
Great game from both teams!
Under-15s [Red] 0 v 6 Ely City Crusaders [Cup Final]
The lads put up a brave show but were hampered by injury and missing players and found Ely too strong on the day. Great effort to get to the final.
Under-15s [Black] 1 v 5 Whittlesford Warriors
Tough day for the Black side as Whittlesford proved a tough side to beat. Remi with the only goal for the Colts.
Under-16s [Red] 1 v 2 Haverhill Rovers
A narrow home defeat for the Under-16s against Haverhill. Izaac on target.
