Cottenham Colts Weekend Round-Up [27th Jan]

Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 27th January.

MINI LEAGUE RESULTS

Under-7s v Little Thetford [Friendly]

Today saw the Under-7’s up against a strong Little Thetford side. It was a slow start from the boys, but the Colts started to gel better as the game went on. There was some great scored to make it a nerve wracking final quarter.

The boys battled hard to the final whistle.

As always, the boys gave 100% effort and had fun.

Under-9s v Whittlesford Warriors

Our Under-9s travelled to face Whittlesford for a friendly game, hoping to keep their good form going. It was a close game with both side playing well in muddy conditions.

Some outstanding goalkeeping from the Colts kept the home side at bay as the team battled on, trying to play some good passing football.

Great effort all round and the whole squad play a part with some great performances.

Great job Boys!!

Girls League

GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS

Under-10s v Sawston Green

The Girls were back in action this weekend as they travelled to Sawston to take on the Greens. It was a heavy pitch for both teams, but the Colts got off to the perfect start, but it was hard work as the muddy pitch made it tricky for both sides to play passing football.

It was a tight match throughout with both teams showing great determination to pass and move with some tough tackles, great shots and good goalkeeping.

It was great to keep the good form going, even missing some players, so the whole squad had to dig deep to get a positive result.

Great going girls!!

Under-16s 1 v 4 Leverington Sports [Cup Semi-Final]

It was heartbreak for the Under-16s Girls as they just failed to reach the cup final going down to a semi-final defeat to Leverington Sports. Ella with the goals for the Colts but Leverington produced a strong second half to book a place in the final against Histon Hornets.

COLTS LEAGUE TEAMS RESULTS

Under-12s [Red] 4 v 0 Burwell FC Ollie, William, Stanley and George all on target for the Colts to secure a great home victory.

Under-12s [Black] 1 v 4 Isleham United Tough game for the Blacks as they found Isleham too good.

Under-13s [Black] 4 v 2 Burwell FC

It was a beautiful day for football, sun shining and warmish, in our brand-new home kit kindly sponsored by Prime Plumbing and the boys were buzzing and ready to go. The last game between the two sides was close and this was going to be no different.

Cottenham started the better, pushing forward and having a few early chances before the two Sam’s combined with Sam.S putting the ball over to Sam.B who volleyed the ball left-footed, hitting the underside of the crossbar and in. Great start with 7 minutes on the clock, Cottenham kept pressing but couldn’t get a second goal. On the 30-minute mark, Burwell got a free kick out on the left and curled in the far post to make it 1-1 at half-time.

The second half begins the same as the first, Cottenham pressing early on and rewarded 6 minutes in with a lovely cross from the right by Edwin for Sam.S to score to make it 2-1, five minutes later Burwell equalise ball though from the right for their player to slot home 2-2.

Phil working hard upfront wins the ball from Burwell and holding off three players breaks free and fires home to make it 3-2 now. Both teams battling hard for the next goal, chances both ends with Leo in goal making some great important saves, then with two minutes remaining the two Sams’ team up with Sam.S putting Sam.B through to make it 4-2 to secure the 3 points for Cottenham.

Great team effort!!

Under-14s [Red] 1 v 0 Saffron Walden Youth

A great win on the road for the Under-14s with a narrow win against a tough Saffron Walden team.

Under-15s [Red] 4 v 3 Newmarket Town [Cup Semi-Final]

We are going to Wembley!!

Congratulations to Cottenham Colts Under-15s [Red] who beat Newmarket 4-3 in the semi-final of the Saturday Knock Out Cup 2023-24 to face Ely City Crusaders [White] in the final. A battling game on a wet pitch and cold morning with goals from Oliver, Dexter and Harry.

Oliver receiving Player of The Match for his two stunning goals!

Great to see a Cottenham team into the cup final and hopefully the lads can lift the cup!

Under-15s [Black] 3 v 2 Royston Town Youth

The Blacks secured all three points thanks to a Remi hat-trick as they beat Royston in a five goals thriller.

Under-16s 2 v 1 Bottisham

The Under-16s took a good point against Bottisham with Morgan grabbing the goal for the home side.

Under-17s 0 v 1 Haverhill

No luck for the Under-17s as they went down to a narrow one goal defeat away at Haverhill.
