Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 3rd February.
MINI LEAGUE RESULTS
Under-8s [Black] v Isleham
After a difficult run of results it was all smiles today for Under-8s Blacks away against Isleham.
It was a close match but the Blacks fought hard in defence with some great tackles and saves and showed their quality in attack with some excellent finishes.
Everyone played their part in a great whole team performance.
Great game, boys!
GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS
Under-9s v Comberton Crusaders
A brilliant team performance. Everyone worked really hard, some good passing and great tackles. Notable mention for some brave goalkeeping for the Colts and some fantastic attacking play.
The team is getting better with each game and really enjoying that challenge every week.
Well Played, Girls!
Under-10s v Royston Town Youth
The girls went into this game high on confidence after a couple of great away performances, and back at home, this game didn't disappoint.
It was end to end action as both teams looked to score with every attack. A great all round team performance with the whole squad playing a part. Royston were certainly not here to make the numbers up, they pressed and tackled strongly in an action packed game.
Some great team goals, last ditch defending and great saves on both sides made it a really entertaining game for the crowd. A superb team effort again, Girls!
Great going girls!!
Under-11s [Purple] v Ely City Crusaders
Proper match today away at Ely. The girls started well and were on the front foot in the first half and the Colts made the early pressure count and went into half-time in the driving seat.
It was a tough second half for the team with Ely pressing hard, and it took a great team effort to secure a positive result. Some great attacking play helped the team, but this was backed up with a solid defence.
Quite a few players were playing in unfamiliar positions, and it was a credit to see them doing well and battling hard against a good team.
Well done, Girls!
Under-11s [Reds] v Ely City Crusaders
The Reds were looking great in their kit and put in a great display as they travelled to Ely. The team started well and took control of the game with some hard work and nice passing moves.
The whole team played a part in this positive result, from the keeper right through to the attackers, everyone worked well together and put into practise what they worked on in training.
Great performance, Girls!
Under-16s 8 v 0 Haverhill Rovers
The Under-16s bounced back from their semi-final cup defeat last weekend to bag three points with an impressive display away at Haverhill. Colts were in control of the game from the first whistle and scored plenty of goals through Lilia [3], Tya [2], Emma and Ava.
COLTS LEAGUE TEAMS RESULTS
Under-13s [Red] 4 v 3 Cambourne Town
With their new sponsored kit by Cottenham Tyre & Autocentre the Under-13s Reds had a tough game against a much improved Cambourne team. After a tight start from both sides, Cottenham went a goal down after having several chances to score, eventually the Colts were back level when Josh scored. After chances for both teams, the Reds found themselves behind again just before half-time.
With a few changes at half-time, the home side brought it back to 2-2 with a goal from Hayden and two minutes later, he grabbed another one. After controlling the game, Tony made it 4-2. Cambourne pulled one back two minutes from time, but th Reds held on for the win and remain top of the league and still unbeaten.
The Red again next week away to Lakenheath.
Under-13s [Black] 4 v 2 Longstanton FC
It was a beautiful February morning and the boys wearing their lovely new away kit kindly sponsored by Off Grid Design
Another quick start again by Cottenham pressing the Longstanton defence and putting the pressure on, Will getting the ball on the left puts a great cross in for Sam.S to smash the ball in to make it 1-0 after 6 minutes.
More pressure by Cottenham, not letting the home side out of their half and the pressure paid out when Phil won the ball outside the box and fired a low shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 and thats they way it stayed till half time.
Second half starts as the first finished with Cottenham on top but not able to add any more goals due to the home goalkeeper, then Longstanton get a goal back to make it 2-1. Cottenham pile more pressure on the home team when Alfie puts a great cross in from the left for Orrin, with a man of the match performance to slot home from five yards to make it 3-1. Few minutes later Sam.S plays Alfie in who makes it 4-1.
Both teams going at it trying to get another goal, Longstanton get a penalty in the last minute to make it 4-2.
Great game and that’s now five league wins on the bounce!
Keep the great form going, lads!
