Here is the weekly round up of team performances from all our Cottenham Colts teams from Mini-League through to the Girls League from Saturday 9th March.
MINI LEAGUE RESULTS
Under-7s v Chesterton Eagles
Today the Under 7’s put up a good performance against a very strong Chesterton team.
It was a good battle with the boys getting some strong tackles in and trying their best for the whole game!
Each week, the boys are playing well as a team and showing real improvement.
We learn from each game and look forward to next weeks challenge!
Under-8s [Black] v Histon Hornets
A fabulous all round performance from the Under-8s Blacks against Histon.
It was a very tight first half with excellent defending and goalkeeping on show from both teams. The match became more open in the second half and the goals started to go in for both teams with four of our players on the scoresheet.
Well done to all our boys for working so well together as a team!
GIRLS TEAMS RESULTS
Under-10s v Melbourn Dynamos
The girls played a fantastic game this morning against a very spirited Melbourn side. The Colts started off fast and scored some great goals but the away side were always dangerous on the counter attack and scored on the break.
It was a good all round performance from the whole squad as everyone played a part and gave 100% to ensure a positive result.
Special mentions to the attackers who took their goals very well.
Keep up the effort, Girls!
Under-11s [Red] v Netherton United Youth & Juniors
It was a tough match for the Red side away to a very well drilled Netherton side. The Colts found it difficult on a small pitch meaning there wasn't the space to let our wingers run, then Midfield getting caught by fast balls over the top and some deadly finishing meant Netherton came out comfortably on top.
A special thanks to Sepura for sponsoring the new kit, the girls looked fantastic!
Under-13s 2 v 4 Sawston Girls FC
The girls were unlucky not to get something from the match today away to Sawston. The pitch was tricky for both sides to try and play some good football. It was an entertaining game with plenty of goals but the home side grabbed all three points.
Lila and Martha were on target for the Colts. Martha was also player of the match for her box to box performance.
Shout out to Leila for making some brilliant saves and keeping the team in the match.
Always next week, girls!
Under-16s 4 v 0 Haverhill Rovers
A great home win for the Under-16s as they chase the league leaders in Division A. Kitty with a brace plus Ava and Milly completed the scoring for the Colts.
COLTS LEAGUE TEAMS RESULTS
Under-12s [Red] 0 v 8 Sharpshooters
A tough few weeks for the Under-12s Red as they suffered a defeat away to the Sharpshooters.
Under-12s [Black] 1 v 4 Comberton Crusaders
The Black team also faced a tough away game as they could not match Comberton in their league battle.
Under-13s [Red] 2 v 1 Morden Magpies
Hayden and Mason were on target for the Colts as they secured all three points in a tight home game against Morden.
Under-13s [Black] 7 v 1 Trumpington FC
With no game for what seems like forever and what a magnificent Saturday morning for football, the sun was shining and a clear blue sky plus the boys all turning up early!!
The team looking great in their lovely new red kit from Prime Plumbing get off to a great start after just 5 minutes with Kian playing right back wining the ball and going past two players before sliding Alfie in, who slots the ball home to make it 1-0. It had been coming, on 12 minutes Alfie picks the ball up halfway and slots the ball through to Sam.S for him to drill it into the back of the net for 2-0.
Only 2 minutes later Phil drives the ball home after a lovely ball from Will to make it 3-0. Trumpington pulled a goal back with a lovely shot curling into the top corner leaving Jasper in goal with no chance.
At 24 minutes, Will plays another great ball through for Alfie to slot home for number four and Alfie’s 2nd of the game, just four minutes later Alfie turned provided for Phil to net his 2nd and Cottenham's 5th.
Right on half time Sam.B picks the ball up on the right goes past 3 players and drills the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards and the score remain 6-1 at half time.
After a lot of changes the game evens out with both teams going for it but no real chances. Then ten minutes from time, Charlie picks the ball up and plays Ethan through to drive the ball into the top corner to make it 7-1.
Great result against a good team and a Man of the Match performance from Ethan, who took his goal well and never gave up closing down and pressing the Trumpington players.
Roll on next week with a tough game against Cambridge Celts, weather permitting.
Under-15s [Red] 1 v 4 Comberton Crusaders
Joel with the only goal for the Colts as they suffered a defeat at the hands of Comberton.
Under-15s [Black] 0 v 3 FC Kennett
Nothing to show for the Black team either as FC Kennett were too strong on the day in the league fixture.
Under-17s [Red] 4 v 2 Soham Town Rangers Youth
Great day for football and a great day for the Under-17s securing their place in the League Cup Final.
After an initial shaky start, conceding the first goal they settled down and went into the break leading two goals to one by half time. The Colts came out strong in the second half storming into a 4-1 lead before Soham got one back in the last few minutes.
Fantastic team display by the whole squad and the team got their rewards with a place in the final and a chance of silverware. Two goals for Jay and Oisin.
The club looks forward to another cup final in the next couple of months.
Great effort, Lads!
